This past May the first I was greeted with something spectacular that I have never seen before, there was a banner on which was written “nous sommes charlie” hanging over the marie at Place de Léon-Blume. I haven’t read a whole lot about the whole Charlie Hebdo incident, but it did seem like a case of purposeful instigation. It could have a variety of meaning none of which I will go into greater detail for fear of going off on a tangent. But it does seem sort of strange that the French Socialist party would still be making a propaganda case for their cause in the aftershocks of the Charlie Hebdo incident. This is especially bizarre because there has been other recent attacks that they could use for their propaganda piece, but alas they won’t be used since they were not widely reported by the mass media.
There is so much to say about May day and so little to say about it at the same time. Having been born within the United States, I have not celebrated May day before I came to Paris. That means that it was my first exposure to May day celebrations that day. Although, later that event we must have been in an area where there wasn’t as much May day festivities because there was not as many people as we thought there was going to be more people around. But I think that most of the people that were celebrating May day were in other locations of Paris such as the Bastille and various Bars around the Île-de-France. Nevertheless that day was completely filled with many different sights and sounds that made it worth it to go outside and experience May day, albeit I missed the parade it still was a unique experience in it of itself.
